Love/Hate of The N95
Sorry I have not written in a while, but I am getting married this Friday and I have been in the process of getting things together for our big day! In my recent post, I had talked about the much anticipated N95 and how I can not wait for the official release. Then about a week or so ago, I was on Howard Forums and there was a discussion on N95: Will you buy when it is released? Or wait or Skip? and after reading a few post, I kind of agreed with a few people and opted to skip and wait/wish for a US version. See, I have been considering opening an Cingular account. One, to take advantage of their 3G/HSDPA and also, so I can buy my soon to be wife the iphone. The soon to be released N95 will not be compatible with the 3G/HSDPA here in the states and that’s what made me make that awful statement…..what the hell was I thinking???
Nokia….please forgive me, lol. I don’t know what I was saying. I plan to get my N95 as soon as it becomes available! I am actually looking forward to purchasing the N800, possibly the N93I, N76 and N95 within this year and I look forward to reviewing all of them, and I also look forward to what Nokia has yet to bring us. I am a huge Nokia fan now and can not see myself leaving….even though for a moment I was considering the treo 750, but that’s because I wanted to take advantage of Cingular’s high speed data and every once in a while I do miss the QWERTY keyboard (being that I came from a treo prior to my N93).
Please take a look at the wonderful reviews on the N95. When you have some time check out Symbian-Freaks Review, Darla Mack, and All About Symbian. They are all willing to answer any and all questions that you may have, so feel free to drop them a line.
N95 Reviewed By All About Symbian
I am so ready to get my hands on the N95! I have actually been debating whether I should get rid of the N93 and go strictly to the N95 (I am thinking of porting over to Cingular), once it is released. I have anxiously being searching the net for the latest new and reviews and Steve over at All About Symbian, has posted his first review of the N95 (which is a good review BTW)……Can you feel the jealousy???
Having Fun Editing On The N93
Hey everyone, just writing really quick to show you one of the unique qualities on the N93. I can’t say how much I love using this phone. Being able to do all this on my phone, just gets me excited about the N95. I can’t wait to get mine. Anyway, I took my son to the dentist today (his first dentist visit), so you know I had to snap a few shots (I love being able to snap a picture at the drop of a dime).
My son is only one, so you know he wasn’t too happy to be there. Anyway, I snapped a picture of him while he was in the chair. After I left, I decided to send it to my mother, sister and my fiancee’s mother. I decided to use the editing feature, because I wanted to make them laugh.

You have many different effects to use. There is Sepia, Rotate Left, Sharpness, Rotate Right, Red Eye Reduction, Black & White,Brightness. Crop, Contrast, Resize, Negative, Cartoonise, Clip-art, Text, and Frame.
To make a long story short, I played around with it and here was the final picture. Nothing spectacular, just something fun to do.
It’s not what I would recommend to always do your editing on, but if you’re not near your computer or you just want to have a little fun, I definitely recommend using it.
Here are two extra screen shots of some of the clip art that you can use. There are way more than what I am showing you. With clip art, you can also resize and move them to your liking.
This week I will be giving a full review on vSun, Yahoo Go 2.0 (BETA), Vox, Shooting Video and Editing Video on the N93. See you then!
Finally Able To Delete Those Pesky Installer Files
It’s been a while since I have last posted, but I had a few things I had to take care of. I’m back now! So this morning I’m going to all of my favorite blog sites (Darla Mack, WomWorld, The Nokia Blog, All About Symbian, Ring Nokia, and My Phone Rocks), just to name a few. Anyway, I came across a very interesting article on Darla’s page.
She has an article about deleting the stuck Installer files. Have you ever turned your phone on, only to get the Application Manager trying to install some .sis file, only to have it say unable to install application? It irritates the hell out of me. Well Darla found an article over at s60 Tips telling how to stop that from happening.
I want to thank Darla very much. I love her site and the information that she provides. When you get a chance, check out her page and Antony over at s60 Tips.
All The iPhone Hooplah!!!
Everyone is making such a big deal over Apple’s new iPhone. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s nice…..real nice, but not nice enough to win me over from Nokia.
I am a mac user and love Apple, so let me get that point out first. If I would have had an Apple phone first, than I wouldn’t be writing this post. One of my biggest complaints with my Nokia phone has been that there is no mac support. I’ve dealt with it though and that’s the only reason I use my regular pc for. I saw the iPhone and was really amazed at what it could do. In just the past week, I have been on Ebay, looking for an 80 GB iPod. So I was pretty curious about it when the news came out. Before viewing the keynote, my thoughts were, "finally I can have a phone that will sync with my mac". I read the reviews and looked at the demo several times and was almost caught up. Then reality hit me…..Do I really want this phone over the N95? I don’t think so! The N95 is what I have been waiting for.
Secondly, I’m with T-Mobile and refuse to switch to Cingular just to get a phone. My experience with Cingular was not that pleasant. I’ve already read where so many S60 users are preparing to jump ship and get the iPhone. Right now, that seems to be the biggest debate in the forums, The N95 or the iPhone?
Well I’m staying put and can’t wait to get my N95 (even though, I haven’t heard much about it this past week). And the N800 looks really interesting to me as well. I guess I will have to get my hands on that as well. The iPhone is a VERY nice phone and if possible (if there ever is an unlocked version), I will have one along side my N95 and N93 (hopefully N93i soon). I am not taking anything away from it. It’s just not enough though to win me from the N95. I just hope that one day I will be able to use my Nokia phone fully with my mac.
Again, what’s all the hooplah about???
Nokia N93i
I wish I could have gone to CES this year. I will be there next year! Check out Darla Mack’s page when you get a chance. She has some really good info, regarding the N93i. I can not wait to get my hands on this phone and the N95, so that I can do a review for you guys!
Video Review Of Nintendo Emulator vNes
I told ya’ll this would be a review that you wanted to see. When I look at different articles and blogs about the N93, outside of the multi-media capabilities, a lot of people talk about the gaming aspect and the potential that they see. The new firmware (v 20.0.058), is technically not out and therefore people on version 11 are limited to only one button pressing at a time. I personally have updated my firmware and can comfirm that you are able to multi-press with the new firmware.
With that being said, I decided to do a video review on 3 emulators. Those emulators are, vNes, vSun and vBoy. The emulators are made by Vampent and I highly recommend them. This is part 1 of my review. Check it out and let me know what you think.
How In The World Do You Soft Reset…..Just Venting!!!
Picture this…………
Pots flying….dishes crashing against the wall….picking your TV up and slamming it…..throwing a chair through the window….take a deep breath, ok, now count to 10…..and WUSSSSSA
I know you’re thinking what??? But that’s how I felt last night. Here’s the scenario…..
I started working on a video review last night about a particular software, won’t tell you what, you’ll just have to wait and see (but I guarantee you’ll enjoy it). Anyway, the software begins to malfunction midway through the review. So, I tell my fiancee to stop taping (she was taping with her N80 by the way) and I close out of the software and re-open it about 4 times. Much to my surprise, I get the same problem. So I decide to do a soft reset. Coming from the Treo, I’ve gotten used to many soft resets. Then it hit me………..How in the world do you do a soft reset. So I jump on the internet and do a search. My search takes me to a site that says to pull the battery out and wait for a minute. So I try that and that doesn’t work. So I end up at another site, and this site says to hit *#7370#. So, I enter the code and it prompts me for the unlock code (which I enter) and the device resets. I jump up thinking ok, everythings good to go and when my phone reloads….it is back to its factory settings.
I wanted to lose it (remember my opening paragragh). I had left my chord at work and my bluetooth on my computer was acting up. So I had to wait until I came into work this morning and reload everything. Of course I did do a restore memory from card, but I didn’t get too much. All my contacts, calendar info and a few programs reloaoded, but that’s about it. It’s definitely not the phones fault. Just a rookie mistake!
N93 to Replace My Digital Camera…..hmmmmm?
Having a camera phone is a big deal to a lot of people now a days. Once they have them, most people complain about the picture quality. Everytime someone calls me about what camera phone should they get, the one thing that everyone mentions is, "does it take really good pictures? My last phone didn’t". You don’t see people on an everyday basis at work, in the clubs or wherever you may frequent with a camcorder or digital camera. You never know what may happen during the course of a day and having a descent camera phone and video is almost a must now a days. I have read on many blogs and forums about people saying how the N73 camera is superb and after seeing what my N93 does, I am very anxious to get my hands on one and snap away.
I work in Downtown DC and was leaving work yesterday. As I was waiting for the light to change so that I could cross the street, I decided to pull out my N93 to snap a picture. I set it to landscape mode and snapped a photo (right before the light changed too). The photo came out beautiful. Tell me your thoughts about the picture quality on this photo……
This weekend I plan to pull out my digital camera and compare the two. I’ll let you know what I decide.
Music Software For My Nokia N93
This phone has been nothing but wonderful ever since I first got it! Being that I am a drummer (20+ years experience), I love listening to all types of music. So I was very anxious to download songs to my 1 GB mini SD card.
The music player that comes with the phone is great. It’s not all that complicated to use and is pretty standard and straight to the point. It gives you a few options, such as…..
It has an equilizer, so that you can adjust the sound to your liking
You can listen to a song and set it as your ringtone. You can even set it to play in the background and surf the internet or write an email. But that’s about it or at least that’s what I have come to conclude.
So I did some searching and came across this great software called LCG Jukebox. This music player does all the Nokia music player does and more. After installing, I went and opened a music file (some good old Luther). I was really surprised at the different things you could do with this player. If you press menu, you have 6 different options to choose from….
Track, Playlist, Equalizer, Album Art Image, Lyrics and Tools
I really like the fact it has streaming radio (even though I like Nokia’s Visual Radio better). Two things that really stand out about LCG Jukebox is, the Lyrics Viewer and Album Image Viewer. The lyrics option allows you to download the lyrics of the particuliar song you listening to. Once your selected song begins, you can click on menu, lyrics and then download and if there are lyrics available, you are given several choices of sites to download them from. With the Album Image Viewer, you can download the CD cover or album image. This is a really good music program and if you are not satisfied with the Nokia music player or just want more, I would suggest you give LCG Jukebox a try.
Below are some pictures showing some of the different features….
